how to learn video marketing headerYou have likely heard video can be great for your business, right?

But why is it important and how do you learn video marketing in a realistic and cost-effective way?

I have run an online business for several years now and as a part of this, I have naturally also started to learn about video marketing.

In this article, I will share my experience about how to get started, the considerations you need to have before starting, and the best way to get started depending on your needs.

So no matter your type of business, your needs, and your preferences, this article will help you get started.

Why video marketing is important for your business

You have likely heard that video marketing can help your business if you run an online business or use online media to promote your business in any way.

But when making decisions about how to spend your time and money to grow your business, it is best to also look at some facts about how something can potentially help your business before investing in it.

When it comes to video marketing, logic alone will likely tell you that people love consuming video content and it, therefore, can be a way to get more attention and keep your potential customers engaged.

But let’s also look at a few statistics about how video marketing can potentially help grow your business.

A fact I find very interesting is how much it can increase the time people spend on your website if you include video.

According to Forbes, 88% of users will spend more time on your website if you have videos in the content.

Videos will increase the time spent on your website.

Personally, this is one of the reasons I started testing video content on some of my websites as it can be a great way to engage people which in turn can improve conversions but also improve your rankings in Google.

So this fact alone shows the power of video if you have a website.

In addition to this, according to Optinmonster, businesses that use video marketing get 66% more qualified leads per year.

Statistically, the use of video gives more qualified leads.

More qualified leads, of course, means more income so this is a big benefit of video marketing.

As you can see in the image above, video also increases brand awareness.

And video can be a great way to connect personally with people whether you have a big business or just have a small one-person business.

All that will lead to more leads and potentially more income.

When we talk about video marketing, we also have to mention YouTube. I just want to mention that YouTube does not have to be included when it comes to video marketing but more about this later.

Let’s for now also look at a few statistics for YouTube as it can give you an idea about the potential if you decide to use this media.

youtube views per day stat

Over a billion hours of video are watched on YouTube alone every day.

According to YouTube itself, more than 1 billion hours of video are watched every day.

In addition to that, YouTube is the second biggest search engine so people are actively looking for content there which means there is a huge potential for your business if you a present.

So these are just a few stats that show why video marketing can be worth considering to scale your business and income.

But video marketing is a broad term so let’s look a bit more into what it actually includes.

What types of videos are there?

As mentioned, video marketing can be done in many different ways.

Naturally, YouTube comes into mind when talking about video. But it is definitely also possible to be successful with video marketing without using YouTube.

Which types of videos are best to use for your marketing depend on your business, your goals, and your personal preferences.

Each type can be effective in its own right.

Some types of videos you can use are:

  • Brand videos:
Are used to brand yourself or your business. Usually, they take a bit of a budget to create as they need to be very professional.
  • Demo videos:
Demo videos are great to show a product and how it works. It can be very useful for your users and a great way to connect. But it can also be used if you work with affiliate marketing to do demos of products you recommend.
  • Review videos:
If you have a blog or website where you do reviews, videos can be great to use and can be a way to show people you are a real person and as a way to connect and build trust. The videos can be used both on your website itself, on YouTube, social media, and more so they can be used for many purposes at the same time.
  • Live videos:
Live videos are becoming increasingly popular as a way to interact with audiences. It can, for example, be through live Facebook videos or live on YouTube.
  • Interviews:
You can use videos where you interview experts in your niche or similar. This can become great and helpful content your users will love. I, for example, often see this in the Facebook group of Paid Traffic Training I am a member of, where the owner does interviews with experts and they are full of golden nuggets and of great benefit to all members.
  • Animated videos:
If you do not like to be on camera yourself, it is also possible to make great animated videos to convey your message.
  • Personalized videos:
This obviously takes a bit more effort but can be a great way to connect. An example is when I first had a question to the owner of Video Marketing Insider and was not even a member yet, he recorded a quick video reply to me – it was something unique and is a great way to connect if you have the time and resources for it.

These are just some examples to give you some ideas to start with.

But video can be used in many creative ways. And as you start learning more, you will likely also start coming up with more and more ideas yourself about how to use it the most effective way for your business.

Important steps if you want to learn video marketing

Now we have gone over some ideas about types of videos you can start creating and why it can be great to consider starting to use videos to grow your business.

Before getting to the best way of learning how to do video marketing the best possible way, let’s first go over a few important points you need to consider before starting so you can get the best possible start.

All of them are connected and will affect each other but I will go over them one-by-one to make it a bit easier to get an overview.

Consideration #1 – Your goals with video marketing

video marketing goal iconYou likely have an idea about why you want to start using video marketing.

But maybe this article has given you more ideas – no matter what, it can be good to just sit down and think it over and maybe even write down some bullets about your goals.

It can, for example, be answers for the following questions:

  • How do you want to use video marketing?
  • Why do you want to use it? (your main goal)
  • What types of videos do you want to create?

All this will naturally develop over time and if you are brand new to video marketing it can be difficult to know exactly how you want to use it and what fits you the best before starting to learn more.

But that is OK – it will definitely develop over time.

When I first started looking into video marketing for one of my niche websites, I was not really sure what I wanted to do with it and what to focus on.

But it will become more and more clear as you learn more and it can still be great to just have an idea of your goals as a guideline before your start.

This will make sure you take it seriously and put effort into it as that is necessary like with everything else if you want to succeed online.

Consideration #2 – Your time frame

time concept video marketingAs with everything else, it takes some time to succeed with a new marketing method – video is no different.

You might already be aware of this but I just often see people not being realistic about the time necessary to succeed online and that is why I mention it here.

Exactly how long it will take to get results is impossible to say as that depends on a lot of factors like your budget, the time you put in, your previous skills, what your competitors do, and more.

So it is not that you have to make an exact time frame – if that is necessary or not depend on the project.

But it is necessary to make sure you put aside time to work with video regularly if you want to succeed with it and that is why I added this bullet here as I too often see people not considering this important fact when it comes to working online in general.

Consideration #3 – Your budget

video marketing budget iconNaturally, your budget is also something to consider.

Actually, video marketing can be done very cheaply with just a few cheap tools and some learning, if you do not have a big budget but have the time to put into it.

If you want faster results and do not have much time to put in, you can compensate by spending more money on, for example, outsourcing.

So you can learn to do video marketing no matter your budget. But it can be good to have an idea about how much you are willing to invest for the first year before you get started so you can plan accordingly.

Best resources to learn video marketing

There are many ways to start learning video marketing and there are ways to learn no matter what your goals are and if you are a complete beginner or have more experience already.

Below I want to mention 3 methods so you can find a good option to learn all you need to learn no matter your current skills and budget.

#1 Recommendation – Video Marketing Insider

video marketing insider logoIf you are serious about wanting to learn video marketing, I would clearly recommend getting some training about it.

Of course, that will cost a bit of money but this is a very good investment if you choose the right option. When I first started learning about video marketing, I did not invest in any training and wasted a lot of time trying to figure out things myself.

At some point, I then heard about the platform Video Marketing Insider and after having looked into it for a while, I decided to get access to it and it has taught me so much about video marketing and saved me a lot of time.

The platform is great if you want to master all aspects of Video Marketing and learn step-by-step. It has 100+ hours of training as well as some great tools included in the membership that can help you achieve your goals faster.

After having been a member for quite a while, I must say I am really impressed with the platform and the training and how it is continuously developed. So it gives extremely good value for money, in my opinion.

I am still a member and keep learning new things and testing new areas as video is still a skill I need to learn more about and this platform is definitely a great place for this.

In addition to this, the owner is a no BS guy that gives great support. You will get access to an exclusive group where you can get direct help from him and all the other members (myself included).

So if you are serious about wanting to use video marketing to scale your business whether you work with affiliate marketing, have a local business, an e-com shop, or anything else, this is definitely my #1 recommended platform to learn it in details.

#2 Recommendation – Udemy courses

udemy logoIf you have a very small budget but still want to invest in a bit of training, you can consider taking video marketing courses on the learning platform Udemy.

You can find many different courses on video marketing here. I have taken quite a few courses within different topics there myself.

The advantage of this platform is that you can get access to training very cheaply and some of it is also of very good quality. But it can sometimes be a bit tricky to find the courses that are worth it but it definitely is possible.

Also, you have to be aware that even though some of them are quite thorough, they are never as thorough as specialized learning platforms, in my experience. And often the support and updating of the courses are also not the best.

But if you only have a very small budget, you can still find great introductory courses here that give good value for money.

#3 Recommendation – Free online content

blog video marketing content iconThere is a ton of free blog content available online about video marketing and it is possible to learn a lot from this.

If you do not have any budget at all, this can be a way to get started. But it is NOT an easy way to get started.

It can be very difficult to sort through the content and find the content that really help you. In addition to this, it will never give you the full picture and you will have to put a lot of pieces together yourself.

So in that way, it can end up costing you a lot of time and there will likely be some steps you miss.

Personally, I learn a lot from free online content continuously, but when I want to learn about a topic in detail, I have learned the hard way that it is way better and more effective to invest a bit in quality training and help.

But if you do not have any budget at all, free online content can be a way to get started and get some ideas about how to move forward and what to test.

To get started with this, all you have to do is just to Google video marketing terms and start going through content.

Final thoughts

No doubt, video marketing is here to stay and can help grow your business, whether you work with affiliate marketing, e-com, are a consultant, have a brick and mortar business, and more.

There are so many opportunities with video marketing and so many different channels and approaches so almost no matter your business and preferences you can make good use of video.

You just need to decide the best way for you to learn video marketing in detail so you can start benefiting from it.

As mentioned in this article, what is best for you will depend on your preferences, goals, time frame, and budget.

I hope this article has helped give you a good overview of what to consider before starting and what opportunities video marketing can give, so you can now find the best option for YOU!

So now it is up to you to choose the method above that sounds most relevant to you and start implementing it and use it to grow your business.
