But is Wealthy Affiliate legit or a scam program to stay away from?

I have been a member of the platform for several years and have tested it thoroughly and have used all the tools and most of the training within the platform.

In this Wealthy Affiliate review 2022, I will give you all the details – both the pros and the cons the platform has to offer.

So if you want to know what Wealthy Affiliate has to offer, and if it the right choice for YOU, then this article will give you the all the details and answers you need to decide.

What is Wealthy Affiliate?

In short, Wealthy Affiliate is an online learning platform, where you can learn skills in internet marketing to promote, grow or build a business and income online.

It was started in 2005, so it has been around for a while. The founders, Kyle and Carson, are themselves successful internet marketers, and they started Wealthy Affiliate to help others succeed online as well.

Both of them are still very active on the platform and daily help out members that need assistance. The platform has more than 1 million members. But let’s now go into more details about what you can learn on the platform so you will know if it is right for you or not because I will also be honest with you and tell you that it is not for everyone.

Wealthy Affiliate training programs

Wealthy Affiliate is, first of all, a learning platform, where you can learn about a wide variety of online marketing topics. It is a very comprehensive platform, and it is therefore also sometimes referred to as the Wealthy Affiliate University.

I have personally not found a platform that has more or better step-by-step training – especially not if you are a beginner. I have learned a lot from being a member there, which I will go more into details about later.

It is called Wealthy Affiliate as a lot of the training is about how you can make money on websites or blogs through affiliate marketing.

But there are many other topics as well – you can learn a lot about how to promote any kind of business online, how to monetize a website you already have, how to use social media to promote your business, how to build a website from scratch and much more.

Here are some training opportunities that are available:

Online Entrepreneur Certification

The Online Entrepreneur Certification is the place to start on Wealthy Affiliate. It is a thorough course that takes you step-by-step through the whole process of building a website, creating content for it, getting traffic from Google, and how you can then monetize this traffic.

I had myself worked with websites and online communication for many years before I joined Wealthy Affiliate, but I still followed this course, and I learned a lot from it.

I was able to make good websites before, but I did for example not know how it was possible to get consistent free traffic for them and make money on the website themselves – these are a few of the many things this course taught me.

The great thing about this course is that it will take you through everything step-by-step, so you do not need any experience at all.

Many people come to Wealthy Affiliate without any knowledge or experience of websites or online marketing, and take this course and ends up making awesome websites (and awesome incomes as well).

The first 10 lessons of the Online Certification Course.

The course has 5 levels with 10 lessons in each level. You can take it in your own time.

A really cool thing is that you get completely free access to all of level 1 (10 lessons) – that was also how I first joined, and I was glad I for free could check out the training.

If you are a beginner or have not managed to make income on your websites before then this is a great course to start with, in my experience.

Weekly live classes

Every Friday there is a live webinar for around 1 hour (usually it almost takes 1.5 hours, as the training chief Jay takes time to answer questions as well). These webinars – or WAbinars as they are cleverly called:-) are a great way to keep up-to-date on the newest trends within online marketing.

However, there is a way to get access to even more webinars and that will give you the option to get access to 200+ live webinars per year with many different experts including the founders of Wealthy Affiliate themselves. You get access to this with the premium+ membership but more about the different membership types later.

The webinars are about many different topics – since I joined, I have watched a lot of them, and I have learned a lot about for example local marketing, conversion optimization, writing content, getting visitors to your site, how to track your progress, and much more.

Every week a new live training is available.

The classes are taught by Jay, who himself makes a living from online marketing and also has a business where he helps people with local online marketing. He is a knowledgeable guy that teaches the classes in an entertaining and interesting way.

100s of hours of video replay

A great thing about the live classes is that they are recorded and uploaded within a day. I can personally rarely fit it into my schedule to watch the classes live, so I always watch the replay. So if you like me have a hard time attending the classes live, it does not mean that you have to miss the classes.

There are members from all over the world so it would be impossible to find a time when it would not be in the middle of the night for some members, so the video replays are a great solution.

The classes will stay available on the platform forever, so there are literally 100s of hours of training replays you can watch if you have certain topics you want to know more about.

Affiliate Bootcamp

The Wealthy Affiliate Bootcamp has 7 level with 10 lessons in each.

The affiliate bootcamp is another training program that is similar to the certification course, as it takes you step-by-step through building a website and online business. This program is however aimed towards people that want to promote Wealthy Affiliate and create a website around online marketing and in the make-money-online (MMO) niche.

Personally, I think it is better to take the certification course first if you do not have a lot of experience with online marketing.

I actually think this course should not really be available right away when people join Wealthy Affiliate as there are some incidences where people follow this and end up promoting WA in a negative way because they do not really understand how to do it ethically and just jump right into the MMO niche.

Also, this is an extremely competitive niche and it will be very difficult to succeed in if you have not yet made money online yourself. Therefore, I think this course makes it a little too easy to choose that niche and I think it would be great if it was made more clear when you are new why this might not be a good idea.

So, in my opinion, you should start with the Online Entreprenuer Certification as that will help you build the best foundation, but it is, of course, individual how people prefer to start their training, and you can choose freely.

Community support and training

Wealthy Affiliate has a lot of official training, as you can see above, but there is also a community aspect to the platform, where members help each other out.

Whenever you have specific questions, you can post a question and there will be plenty of other members that are happy to answer. You can either do this by posting a question or asking in the live chat where there is always other members available to help.

You can also write a personal message to the owners Kyle and Carson – and they do actually personally respond, and often also participate in the live chat to answer questions.

If you write them a personal message, do however expect it to take a little time for them to get back to you, as they receive hundreds of messages a day and respond to all of them. So if you want a quick answer, it is better to ask the community or use the live chat.

I am also personally on Wealthy Affiliate more or less every day, so I will gladly help out if you have any questions or need any help.

Members that have been with Wealthy Affiliate for a minimum of 3 months can furthermore create their own training. So usually there are many trainings created every day.

Having this big a community can be a great support. Of course, with this many members it is difficult to moderate and sometimes members end up not being so nice or end up giving poor advise because the think they know more than they do. So it has both it pros and cons.

But if you are just critical to who you listen to within the community then it can really help a lot and make sure you get all the help you need. And the way it is organized within the platform makes it pretty easy to navigate compared to many other learning platforms I have used.

Tools included in your membership

As you can see above, there is a lot of training and learning opportunities within Wealthy Affiliate.

But it can also be great to have some tools to help you – Wealthy Affiliate offers several tools like this that can help you build your website and business more efficiently, and that can give you an advantage compared to other website owners:

Keyword research tool

Jaaxy is a great tool to get precise data about keywords, and to content ideas for your website.

One thing that is extremely important when it comes to getting traffic to your website is to find the words and phrases people are actually searching for. You need a tool to get good data about this.

Wealthy Affiliate has an amazing research tool for this called Jaaxy that is a part of your membership – I have tried many keyword research tools, and this is definitely one of the best. Especially because you get access to it as a part if your membership and this can save you a lot of money compared to having to buy similar tools elsewhere.

It furthermore gives you the possibility to check where your site is ranking on google and come up with ideas for content to write for your website.

I was very happy when I started using this tool, and it made it so much easier to find the right topics to write about for my websites, and for people to find what I was writing.

SiteContent platform

Content is the backbone of any website. SiteContent is a platform within Wealthy Affiliate that makes it easier and more efficient to create content.

You will have access to templates, you can create your own templates, there is a thorough spelling and grammar checker, it checks for duplicate content which is important to avoid, it makes it easy to find free images you can include in your content and more.

Again a tool that has helped me become a lot more efficient.

Get feedback on your site

Getting someone else to look at your site and giving feedback is a great way to improve – feedback is important no matter how many websites we have made or have many articles we have written online.

Wealthy Affiliate has a platform where you can request feedback from other members, and get some valuable tips.

In general, Wealthy Affiliate has a pay it forward approach to many things, which is also the case with the feedback tool. That means that you have to give feedback to other members before you can request feedback to your own website.

Site support

Wealthy Affiliate has a 24-hour support service that can help with any technical issue. I have for example tried to accidentally crash my site, and within a few minutes, it was back up and running by the help of the SiteSupport. For issues like this or other similar technical issues, SiteSupport is very fast.

If you have issues with for example a specific template you are using for your website or similar things, they are not always able to help, but then one of the many other members will likely be able to help.

In general, it is nice to know that if there is an urgent matter, they usually fix it VERY quickly.

Website performance tools & hosting

Some of the awesome website functions that are available.

You have the possibility to have your website hosted within Wealthy Affiliate if you are using WordPress. Hosting is very important for your website’s performance and security.

The hosting is amazing compared to many other webhosts, and it does not have an extra cost to have your website hosted there.

Some things that make it an amazing place to host your website is that is a very secure platform, it has a built-in spam blocker that protects your website, it has a site speed function that gives your site an advantage over competitors, and it has a free SSL certificate which will make your website secure.

Many hosts charge a lot of money for similar services, but at Wealthy Affiliate, it is included in your membership, which makes it even better value for money.

You will even have SSL for your websites with the free membership so you can get a secure website completely for free.

In addition to this, the hosting is providing SiteSpeed, which is a function that will speed up your WordPress website, and make it faster than most other WordPress websites. The great thing is that you do not need any technical skills to speed optimize, as you can just toggle the function on, and then you will see some really high-speed test scores.

I have tested speed for many websites for both my own and client’s websites and my websites that are hosted at Wealthy Affiliate has by far the best speed. This is important for both the user-experience, and for good rankings in the search engines, so it is amazing to have this function as a part of your membership.

Affiliate program tool

The affiliate program platform is one of the newer tools on Wealthy Affiliate and a proof the platform is constantly evolving and aiming to make it as easy as possible to be an affiliate marketer.

Usually, it can take a lot of research and testing to find the right affiliate programs for the niche you are in. Especially because many affiliate networks do not show you what kind of programs they have until after you have joined.

Wealthy Affiliate has launched an affiliate tool that makes this a lot easier. You can use the tool inside Wealthy Affiliate to easily search for programs.

The affiliate program tool makes it easy to find relevant affiliate programs.

It has many different filters you can use and you can also browse through different categories. I must say it really can save you a lot of time.

This is, however, not all you can use the tool for. You can also communicate with others about the different programs and WA members can leave reviews about the different affiliate programs and share experiences.

There are more than 1 million members on WA so that can really help to get some feedback about the different options – especially if you are new.

The idea is also that the affiliate program tool will evolve and many updates are planned for it. Eventually, you will be able to also communicate directly with the different affiliate programs within the tools.

Personally, I think this is a great idea as I am a member of quite a few affiliate programs and to communicate with them, I have to log in to many different platforms so having it all in one place sounds great.

So this tool can really save you a lot of time and it is a great addition to Wealthy Affiliate, in my opinion.

Wealthy Affiliate price and costs

So far I have explained a lot about what Wealthy Affiliate offers, and what my experiences are with some of the tools and training. But let’s now get to something very important for most people – what it costs to join Wealthy Affiliate.

There are three kinds of Wealthy Affiliate memberships – a starter membership, a premium membership, and a premium+ membership. What is really great is that the starter membership is completely free and you do not need any credit card details to sign up for it.

The starter membership will give you access to the first 10 lessons of the certification course, the first 10 lessons of the affiliate bootcamp, 1 free website, and for the first 7 days, you have access to live help and 1-on-1 coaching as well.

You can stay a free member forever and even keep your two free websites for 6 months as well. It is quite unique for any learning platform to give you completely free access to test what it has to offer.

Here is a further breakdown of what the differences between the two membership types are:

As you can see, there are certain things you will only have access to the first 7 days you are a free member. Therefore, I encourage you to really spend some time the first 7 days to test all the platform has to offer.

After that, it will then be easy to decide whether you want to stay as a free member or become a premium member.

The premium membership is $49 per month, which is very cheap and VERY good value for money compared to all the training and all the tools you get.

However, if you decide to go premium within your first 7 days, you will get your first month for only $19 – that is a great way to get plenty of time to test all the training, tools, community support, etc. and to build a great foundation for yourself as well.

Also, if you want to upgrade to the premium membership at some point, it is good to know that you can also buy a yearly membership for only $495 for a full year – that is only $1.35 a day for unlimited access to training, support, 1-on-1 mentor, tools, community support and more.

In addition to this, you also get $50 in community credits, 1 free .com domain, and a lite membership to their keyword research tool Jaaxy.

Premium+ is a very new membership option as of updating this review. This is definitely not necessary to upgrade to this and it is more of a bundle for the more advanced users. So by the time this becomes relevant for you, you will already be making good money online.

But let me still just quickly explain what you get with the premium plus membership. You get $100 in community credits, 2 free .com domain, hosting for up to 50 domains, 200 extra expert classes per year, and access to Jaaxy Enterprise which is the most advanced membership for this keyword research tool. The price for premium+ is $995 per year.

No matter which option you choose, this is a very good price for being able to get access to this much new knowledge and to be able to build your own online business.

In comparison, I can tell you that the classes I usually teach in online marketing and similar classes like that, where you show up in person for a day, usually cost at least twice the yearly membership of Wealthy Affiliate for a 1-day course.

Also, I have myself tried to pay more for a course online with just a few hours of video training than a WA premium membership costs for a year. So I know from personal experience how much value for money you get at WA.

Countries allowed

You can join Wealthy Affiliate no matter where you live, but there is one country where the free membership is not available, as there has unfortunately been too much fraud from there.

This country is Nigeria.

You can still join if you live in here and are serious about building an online income – you just have to go directly for the paid membership. In all other countries, you can join as a free member.

Are there any extra/hidden costs?

I know from experience that many services online offer an initial price to join that is pretty low, and you then get access to training, etc.

But after a while, you then have to pay to get access to the next level and pay again to get access to the next level of training, etc. Many of the platforms that use this technique can end up being very expensive.

When I first found out how it works at Wealthy Affiliate, I was very pleased. You know exactly what your costs will be, and there are no sneaky extra costs that suddenly show up.

Every single tool, training, etc. are included in your membership. The only tool you can choose to upgrade is the keyword research tool. This is however not necessary, and you will easily be able to manage with the keyword tool access that is included in your membership.

Also, the training is constantly updated and new training is created often.

The platform keeps evolving, and for the time I have been a member, I have seen some huge improvements and new amazing tools becoming a part of the platform – none of it has increased the price, so you know what your costs will be.

Who is Wealthy Affiliate for / not for?

I have been a member of Wealthy Affiliate myself since 2016, and I love being a member. But I also honestly want to say that it is not for everyone.

From being a member myself and interacting with many other members, I have been able to figure out who in general will benefit a lot from joining, and who it will not be useful for. In short, it can be broken down to:

You will benefit from Wealthy Affiliate:

• if you want to learn about internet marketing in general
• if you want to learn how to make money online from scratch
• if you are willing to learn and take action on what you learn
• if you are willing to make an effort and commit time

You should not join:

• if you expect to become rich overnight
• if you expect to become rich with no effort
• if you are not willing to work hard and learn
• if you need very advanced training becasue you already have a lot of experience making money online

It might sound a little obvious, but I have seen many times how people join with the hopes that they can make a living online after just a few weeks and with very little effort.

I know many sites online promise you can become rich overnight, but I really like that the owners of Wealthy Affiliate never promise this.

In most cases, that will just not happen. You have to make an effort, learn, and take action on what you learn.

If you are willing to do that, you will be extremely happy with joining – I know I have been.

However, if you already have a succesfull affiliate business and need very advanced training, then you will likely find the training inside Wealthy Affiliate too basic. Then you might find good value in the tools, but you just need to do it for that reason then.

Can you really make money on Wealthy Affiliate?

There are many ways to earn with what you learn on Wealthy Affiliate. Some people join to learn how to build an online business and website so they can make a living from anywhere.

This is definitely possible if you make an effort and the great thing about it is that you can earn by having a website about something you are passionate about – no matter what the topic is.

I have learned to make good money on websites from following the training and using the tools there, and it has opened up a lot of opportunities to me (more about my experiences later).

Others join to learn skills to promote a business they already have whether it is an online business or a brick and mortar business. There are many ways to earn with what you learn.

In addition to learning to make money on websites, I have also used the skills I have learned there to get some really good freelance jobs, and I know many other people at Wealthy Affiliate have too.

You can also earn money directly on the Wealthy Affiliate Platform. You can, for example, earn by giving comments and feedback on other websites, and you can earn by creating training there for other members.

If you use these opportunities you can right away cover your costs of the membership until you get your own website rolling.

I know from personal experience that it definitely is possible to make money on Wealthy Affiliate, and you can see from the stories above that it happens all the time.

I just want to make it clear that it does not happen to all members. It, of course, depends on your effort and dedication. The training and support to learn how to make money online are definitely there, but you need to be willing to make an effort, dedicate some time, and take action to make it happen.

That is just how internet marketing works even though many programs try to sell you the idea that you can just click a few buttons and sit back and become rich. That is NOT how it works.

Wealthy Affiliate complaints

So are there any complaints about Wealthy Affiliate?

In general, by far the most members are happy with their membership. I have however heard and seen a couple of complaints, so I want to address them here. I have mainly seen three different kinds of complaints:

Unethical business methods:
Most complaints I have heard are actually from some of Wealthy Affiliate’s competitors that say WA teaches their members unethical methods to get traffic by talking badly about other companies.

Complaints from competitors should not always be taken seriously, as they might have an interest in making something look bad. But I do know what they refer to, as I have seen some reviews from members of Wealthy Affiliate that are not so ethical, and mostly to make a sale.

This has however nothing to do with the training or what is being taught at Wealthy Affiliate, in my opinion. I have always been very impressed with how the training at Wealthy Affiliate and the owners emphasize honesty and about making websites and content that really help other people.

This is the focus of everything on Wealthy Affiliate, and that is also why they for example never promise you can become rich overnight.

This emphasis on building an honest business and knowledge was one of the main reasons I decided to become a premium member.

There are more than 1 million members at Wealthy Affiliate, so there will obviously be some that do not always follow what is being taught or misunderstand.

Also, a part of this is, in my opinion, because it is possible to start promoting WA right away when you join and then it is easier to misunderstand and end up doing this – this is one of the reasons I do not think it should be possible for new memebrs to promote WA right away, as mentioned earlier.

Personally, I have from the beginning been impressed with the integrity of the owners and the focus on honesty and quality, and it is one of the most ethical and honest training platforms I have seen online. And the training always teach you to be honest even though some members might end up not following this and WA could probably do a better job at making sure this does not happen.

However, some of the companies I have heard complain about this often have hundreds of people writing fake positive reviews about their own products to get more visibility and sales.

Members from Wealthy Affiliate however often outrank these reviews on Google and tell some truths about these programs. They do not like people get to see this in the search results, as it hurts their business, and it makes it harder to scam people and convince them their products really are the magic way to financial freedom.

I for example personally happily write reviews to share my experiences and the warning signs I see, when I come across different online services as there is so much BS and poor products online today. That people are willing to point out some of these things have helped me in the past avoid being cheated, and I think it is important people get to know some warning signs.

Of course, this should be done in a proper way, and I do not support overly negative or overly positive reviews just to make a sale. But this has nothing to do with the training at Wealthy Affiliate.

Most of the complaints about this are from competitors that are upset Wealthy Affiliate is more successful and that do not understand the training there is actually teaching a very honest approach and one of the most honest approach within internet marketing I have seen.

I have myself had some people become abusive towards me because I told some truths about their programs and techniques they use so it is important to always look at such accusations from different angles as sometimes people are just upset their scam tricks are revealed. And other times they have a point as some members are not fair in thier reviews – but it is NOT what is taught in the training. Here you only learn to focus on honesty and quality.

People do not make enough money:
I have heard some complaints that it takes too long to make money on Wealthy Affiliate. This mainly comes down to what expectations you have. That is also why I above mentioned who the platform will be for, and who it will not be for.

Many people have a tendency to chase “shiny objects” online that can make them rich overnight.

As mentioned, this will not happen in most cases, but creating a sustainable income online takes some time and effort. If people join with wrong expectations, they will obviously be disappointed.

That is also why I try to give as many details as possible in this review, so you know what you are getting into if you decide to join.

You can only make money by promoting Wealthy Affiliate:
I have seen quite a few people claim that Wealthy Affiliate is kind of a pyramid scam and that you can only make money by promoting the program itself.

I can say from personal experience that this is definitely NOT true. Yes, you can earn commissions if you promote WA like you can by promoting more or less any other kind of online training program.

But this is by far the only way to make money with what you learn on WA. I believe that these claims come from people that have not understood the full depth of the training and tools on the platform or that have never actually tried it themselves.

It teaches you a lot of internet marketing skills you can use to promote whatever you want to.

I have personally been able to create a niche website that does not promote Wealthy Affiliate – it now generates a full-time income and I have done this by following the training and using the tools on WA.

In addition to this, I have also used the skills I have learned for other ways of making money, as I will explain more about below.

In fact, you will probably see results a lot faster if you do not go into promoting WA as it is an extremely competitive niche, as mentioned earlier.

My personal Wealthy Affiliate experience

I have already shared some of my own experiences as a Wealthy Affiliate member, but there are a few things I want to expand on.

I have a background and education in online communication, but when I joined Wealthy Affiliate, I had not worked online for a few years, as I had spent most of my time studying yoga in India. I needed an upgrade and some new knowledge. I tested many platforms and methods before I found Wealthy Affiliate.

It has been an amazing journey so far, and I am now able to make a living and provide for my family through my websites, and I have also been able to upgrade my skills, so I have been able to get some really good freelance jobs within online marketing.

I am now making a good full-time income by working online thanks to the training, tools, and support at Wealthy Affiliate.

The cool thing is that the training is for more or less all levels. There are many people that do not have any online marketing skills at all when joining, and that end up being very successful.

I am definitely planning to stay as a member, and hopefully, I will see you in there, and I will be more than happy to give a hand if you ever need any help or advice.

I know from my own experience that the training and tools on Wealthy Affiliate works and can teach you a lot. That is the only reason I am also recommending it.

Tips to succeed

I will be completely honest with you – not all people succeed with Wealthy Affiliate.

From my experience at Wealthy Affiliate, I have learned a few tips that will help you get the most out of your membership whether it is the free or premium membership.

These tips will give you a good start and will help you succeed.

• Focus on the training:
  When you first join, the best thing you can do is to start the online certification course and do it step-by-step. There are many other things to do and learn at Wealthy Affiliate, but this will give you the best foundation.
  Focus on doing the training, and do not let yourself be distracted by other trainings, etc. within Wealthy Affiliate – you can expand to these, once you have built your foundation.
• Do not get overwhelmed:
  This is connected to the bullet above. There are so many things going on within Wealthy Affiliate – there are new trainings constantly, members discussions, new blog posts to read, etc. All this is really great, but when you first join, many people (myself included) can feel a little overwhelmed about the opportunities and end up getting distracted and jump around.
  Do not let this happen to you – focus on the training as mentioned above, and you will then eventually start using all the opportunities that are available.
  I have seen members join and just jump around for weeks (or even months) without getting a direction or foundation. Often they will end up leaving without success and claim WA does not work. So the best advice I can give is to follow the steps that are outlined in the training, and ask whenever you need help. Then you will do very well and learn a lot.
• Dedicate some time:
  In general, it takes some effort to build knowledge and to build an online business. So be prepared to dedicate some time learning and be willing to put in the effort to both learn and build your income.
  I also recommend spending your first 7 days at Wealthy Affiliate wisely. As mentioned earlier, here you will have full access to all of the platform for free, so use that week to really get to know the platform and training (again the best place to start is the certification course and follow it step by step).

If you follow these pieces of advice, you will gain a lot out of joining Wealthy Affiliate, and I am sure you will enjoy it and learn the skills you need to build or grow a business and income online.
