Making money online can give a lot of freedom, and it is a dream for many people in the United States.

But is it even possible to achieve, and how do you get started, so you do not end up getting scammed and lose money instead?

Let me reveal right away that it definitely is possible to learn no matter your previous experience, but making money online is not a get-rich-quick thing, as many people think. It takes some effort, but is definitely worth it.

So in this article I will show you how to make money online in the USA legitimately and realistically.

How are the opportunities to make money online in the USA?

Let us first look at how the opportunities to earn money online are in general in the US.

As you are probably aware, the US is a big country, which also means there are a lot of opportunities in general – this also goes for making money online.

But the amazing thing about an online income is that it does not matter, where you live. You can work from your home in the US no matter how big or small the city you live in are, or you can work while traveling abroad. So your income is not dependent on your location.

The USA does however still have some advantages compared to many other countries:

The advantage of the English language:
One of the big advantages, if you live in the US is that you already know English. This means you can communicate with most parts of the world, which can lead to huge opportunities online.

People that instead live in a smaller country with maybe only a few million people and do not speak any other languages, do not have the same opportunities, as their potential market to target is a lot smaller.

So knowing the English language is a huge advantage and opens up to many opportunities online. But also do not think of the US as the only place you can make money, or as the only market you can earn money from.

That is very limiting – when you work online, you can communicate with the whole world, and there are MANY people speaking English all over the world, so you have huge opportunities, so do not limit yourself to only the US market alone.

Many available platforms:
Another advantages of being from the US and knowing the language, when you want to learn to make money online is that there is a lot of available platforms, you can learn on and a lot of available programs/systems in your language.

This is on one hand an advantage. On the other hand this is also a big danger, as there unfortunately are MANY scams online claiming to teach you how to make money online, only to end up taking your money. I have tested many methods and programs online, and have only found very few that are actually worth it and will teach you a real way to make money online.

But it is definitely possible, and again compared to many other countries, you will have more and better opportunities. You just need to know how to avoid the scams and get started the best way, which we will get into below.

What to consider before you start?

As I have already mentioned, it is definitely possible to make money online legitimately in the United States. To succeed there are however some things you need to consider before starting:

Remember your motivation:
Your motivation is very important in succeeding online. You probably already have good reasons why you are looking into making money online.

Some of the most common reasons are to have the freedom to work on your own terms and being able to work whenever and wherever you want to. This can give a lot of freedom and more time with family or friends, or the possibility to travel while working, so you do not even have to be in the US all the time.

It can also give you the freedom not to be dependent on somebody else hiring you, and it is possible to eventually create a really good income that is higher than what most people make from working full-time. If you have other motivations, feel free to share them in a comment below this article.

No matter your main motivations, keep remembering these. It is definitely possible to succeed online, but contrary to what some scam programs claim, it will not happen overnight. So it is important to remember your motivation to keep going – if you keep going, success will come!

Manage your expectations:
Expectation management is very important before starting to make money online. Unfortunately, many people think that making money online only takes a few clicks of a button, and then they can sit back and relax for the rest of their lives.

This is one of the biggest myths of internet marketing. In time, you can work less and earn more than in a “normal” job, but it will not happen overnight. Do not see it as a quick fix to get rich, but look at as if you are starting an online business in the USA.

It is a long-term sustainable income you are looking to create, and as any other kind of business, this takes some effort and time. It can happen a lot faster than a conventional business, and with a lot less costs, but it will still take some time.

One of the biggest reasons for failure online in impatience and the expectations that it does not require any work. If you are looking to get-rich-quick and without any effort, there are great risk you instead will end up losing money on one of the many online scams.

Avoid the scams:

Many people give up making money online, because they keep running into scams. I myself was about to give up at some point, as it seemed all I could find was scams, where the only person that would make any money would be the owner of the program.

There are several signs you can look for to avoid the scams, but one important aspect is related to the point above. Do not go for the programs that promise you can become rich online overnight and on autopilot.

This is just not how it works online. And think about – if somebody really had a 100% automatic way to make money online that could make them rich overnight, why would they even be bothered to make these pushy sales pages, and try to push you hard into signing up?

When you see something like this, you should expect the reason to be that the way they make money is to get you to sign up, and then keep selling to you through a lot of upsells that often can end up costing you thousands of dollars without ever making you any real money.

So stay way from programs that make promises like this – it is a sure way to fail online and a sure way to end up losing money instead of making any.

Best way to start earning money online in the US

There are quite a few ways you can start making money online in the US. Some of them are however quite risky or take a lot of investment (e.g. stock trading, Forex, or crypto currencies). Others do not have much long-term potential, or can only make you some money on the side.

I have tested many of these methods, and some of them are definitely legit, but just not a way for everyone, as some of them are very risky, and some do just not have enough potential in my opinion. Below, I will instead show you the approach I have found to be the most effective no matter your previous experience, and the method I have used to create a full-time income.

Start learning:
When you want to make money online from the USA, it is difficult to know where to start.

I myself looked around to find a legit way to learn how to build an online income step-by-step, and mostly just found poor platforms or scams.

Learning is however very important, and if you have never made many online before, you need help and support from someone who knows how to do it and can show you the correct steps. At first, I tried to do it myself, but ended up failing, as I did not understand the process.

I ended up finding the learning platform Wealthy Affiliate, where I joined for their free membership to test it out – I did not have many expectations, after having been disappointed so many times before.

Start working:
Once you are a member of the learning platform and start the step-by-step courses, you need to be willing to put in some work to succeed. It will not come on its own.

This is why I mentioned earlier in this article that if you want to make money online, you need to be willing to make an effort. Take the learning serious and do the work and do the tasks. Then success will come.

I have seen people follow the same training as me, but still with the mentaility that they would become rich within a few weeks, they would skip steps, try to take shortcuts, and in general not be willing to do any real work. They alwasy end up failing!

If you are not willing to make an effort, there is really no need to join or to even try to create an online income. You will just waste your time – there is no magic system that will do all the work for you.

You can get support and learn the steps, but you are the one that need to do the work – that also means that when you succeed, you are the one that achieved this.

Start earning:
When you keep learning and putting in the work, then the earnings will start coming. Once you for example have a website and know how to get a lot of traffic for it, you will have many ways to monetize this traffic.

If you live in the USA, it is definitely possible to create an online income. Do not believe the people that say it is not possible to do legitimately – it definitely is.

But do also not believe the programs that claim you can become rich overnight and never have to do any work. Then you will likely end up joining a lot of scams and losing money instead.
