Hive Work (also known as Hive Micro) claims to be a platform where you can make money online by doing easy tasks.

But is Hive Work legit or a scam to stay away from?

I have joined to put it to the test and see what it really offers and what you can really earn.

Let me reveal right away that it is legit in the sense that you can earn some extra money online there. BUT what I found after testing it was honestly very disappointing.

This Hive Work review, reveals all the details so you know exactly how it works and what to expect if you decide to join.

What is Hive Work and what does it offer?

Hive Work is a platform that says you can join their team as a data labeling expert. The platform is also sometimes referred to as Hive Mirco because the website address is hivemicro.com. But it is the same platform and the same type of jobs it offers.

They supposedly offer competitive compensation, flexible hours, and the ability to work anywhere you choose and you can start earning today.

You can basically do simple online tasks and earn real money.

Hive Work itself says it has over 1.5 million members in over 200 countries around the world they provide a steady source of income to.

All this sounds great so far, right?

In some ways, it is also true that this is what the platform provides and it is a legit site as you can earn there.

However, before getting too excited you need to know exactly what kind of jobs you can find and what they mean when they say they can provide you with a steady source of income.

So let’s start by going over what options you find as a member of Hive Work.

Option 1 – Hive Micro jobs

The main feature of Hive Work is all the micro jobs you can find as a member. And I must say that they do offer a lot of tasks and probably more than you would be able to take.

The jobs are small tasks like for example labeling images, categorization tasks, text transcriptions, and more.

In one sense the tasks are quite easy, BUT there is a catch you will see right after joining.

You can not start taking the paid jobs right away.

For each job you can find on Hive Work, you first have to take a qualification test.

This test is unpaid. How long it takes depends on the specific tasks. I have tried several of these qualification tasks.

They are honestly not very user-friendly. On the image above you can see one of the tasks, I did a qualification test for.

I had to box logos on images. Not really a hard task but I was surprised by how it worked. Because it turned out it was more difficult to predict what the tasks were than expected.

Below you can see an image of one of the qualification tasks I got wrong.

The orange line is how I marked the logo. The green is how it was supposed to do. So I got that one wrong which I honestly think is a bit strange.

Even after learning from that and getting more right, I actually did not get enough right to pass the qualification test.

I ended up getting 79% correct but that was apparently not enough to qualify.

I actually spend around 15 minutes to take the test and did not get paid for that and then ended up not qualifying.

So if you decide to do this, you have to be very precise – even when you are, you might sometimes get surprised about how they judge your work.

However, I have also taken another qualification test where I did end up qualifying.

So it definitely is possible but it can take some patience.

But if you want to earn on Hive Work, you have to pass the qualification test for each job you want and then you can start earning.

How much you can then actually earn is something we will get to later. Let’s first look at the other options you have as a member.

Option 2 – Weekly bonus

As an active worker on Hive Work, you can earn a weekly bonus.

You can earn up to $1.50 per week so it is not a huge bonus.

The problem with this is that they do not describe how you get this bonus and what it takes.

There is in general very little information on Hive Work about how it works – it, for example, does not have a FAQ section where you can read the basic info.

So you have no way to get this info unless you write the support.

Luckily they have a support option and they say they respond within a day, but it really should not be necessary to write support to find out what it takes to get the weekly bonus, in my opinion.

In this area, Hive Work is really not very user-friendly. But if you become a hard worker it is supposedly possible to earn a weekly bonus of up to $1.50.

Option 3 – Use the Hive Work app

One good thing about Hive Work is that they have an app that makes it easy to use the platform on the go.

You can download it both in Google Play and the App Store.

It is quite easy to use and nice this option is there. Most of the jobs you can find on Hive Work can be taken both on mobile or desktop but there can be some jobs you can only find on one of the platforms.

But overall the layout and how you use the platform is the same no matter the device you use and if you use the app or not.

And it will not give you more or less pay.

Option 4 – Get a Hive Work referral code or invite others

Hive Work has one more way you can earn and that is through their referral program.

This is a way for you to earn a bit extra by inviting others to join but also for you to earn extra if you join with a referral code from someone that is already a member.

If you invite someone, you will get $1 when they have earned $5 – the maximum you can earn per person you invite is $5.

If you join with a referral code from an existing member, you will yourself earn a $0.50 bonus when you have earned $5 and the maximum you can earn like this is $2.50.

This might sound like a great option and it definitely can be a way to earn a bit extra. But I will be honest with you – it will not be as easy as it might sound because of the overall earning opportunities on Hive Work.

Therefore, I am, for example not sharing a referral code here you can use to join, as it is not really an option I recommend. And to be able to share a code, I have to earn $2 and after having tested it, I am honestly not patient enough to do that.

But let’s go more into the earning opportunities on Hive Work below, so you can see what I mean.

How much can you really earn?

As you can see, it is really possible to earn money as a member of Hive Work.

But what you really need to know is then if it will be worth your time or not.

So let me explain what the earning potential is. Let’s take the job I actually ended up passing the qualification test for.

It was a job where I had to mark 4 points around cones on images. It was quite easy (although quite boring) but if you look at the description on the image below you will see what the potential of a job like that is.

Here you can see that particular job pays $0.15 per 1,000 tasks. It is NOT per task but per 1,000 tasks.

The pay per task depends on the job and some are higher. The highest I have seen is $4 per 1,000 tasks but there are not a lot of these.

Most jobs give between $0.15-$0.60 per 1,000 tasks.

The tasks I did took maybe around 30 seconds per task. But you also have to be aware that there will likely be tasks you do not do correctly as I showed earlier. For some higher paying tasks it might take longer than 30 seconds per task as well.

But just for this example let’s assume you only spend 30 seconds per task and do all of them correctly.

Let’s also say you get $0.50 per 1,000 tasks for this calculation.

Then you would have to spend 30 seconds x 1,000 to get $0.50. This is 500 minutes which is the equivalent of more than 8 hours.

That is an extremely poor hourly rate. Then I know some of the jobs give a bit more but even if we take the highest paying job I have seen that pays $4 it would be a very poor rate to get that for 8 hours of tedious work.

You can then, of course, earn a bit more if you invite a lot of people to join. But as you can see from this, many people will probably give up before earning the $5 that is required for you to earn a commission.

So overall I would say that the earning potential on Hive Work is definitely not impressive, in my opinion. But you can make some extra money if you do it full-time but not a lot compared to many other ways of earning online.

How will you get paid?

If you decide to join Hive Work, you need to know that payment options so you know if these fit your needs.

Here you have two options – you can get paid in cash through PayPal or Bitcoin.

So the Hive work payment methods are great ways to get your earnings.

You can get your earnings out once you have earned $10, so the payout threshold itself is quite low.

Just be aware that there might be some fees depending on when you decide to take your money out. Hive Work mentions themselves that you can set the payout threshold higher to reduce the fees.

Again, they do not have more info on the site about this so you cannot really see exactly what the fees might be.

In my opinion, it would have been great if Hive Work had covered the fees with the low pay they give – they could at least make sure you could all of it paid out when you have to work so hard for it.

Who can join Hive Work?

The best aspect of Hive Work is, in my opinion, that you can join no matter where you live. According to the site itself, it already has members in more than 200 countries.

And the tasks are something that you can do and get access to no matter the country you are from.

Just be aware that you need good English competency to join even though you can also set the language to Spanish.

But other than that, there are not as such any requirements to who can join. But to be able to start earning, you need to pass the unpaid tests for each type of Hive micro task as explained earlier.

Final verdict

Hive Work is legit as it is a way to earn money and the payout methods are also legit.

This does, however, not mean it will be worth your time and the best way for you to make money online. This, first of all, depends on your preferences and expectations.

So let’s finish this review by summing up the pros and cons so you can get a better overview before deciding to join or not.

Pros:

• Free to join
• All countries can join
• Has many tasks

Cons:

• Extremely poor pay
• No guides or FAQ section on the site
• You do not get paid for the qualification tasks

Overall, Hive Work can be a way to earn money online. But it will take A LOT of patience.

First of all, you do not get paid for the qualification tasks and you can end up spending quite a lot of time on those only to find out you do not qualify.

Secondly, even when you qualify for the paid tasks the pay is just extremely low compared to other ways to make money online.

In my opinion, it is only a platform worth considering if you have a lot of time to put into it and do not need to make much money.

No matter what, there are, however, better ways to invest your time to make money online, in my opinion.
